Naturopathy Assessment Consultations
When you pay for your package and make an appointment, you will be sent a link to my secure GDPR Compliant online client platform. Here you will complete and sign various forms online, including a large Naturopathic Assessment Questionnaire enabling me to assess your current health and lifestyle, and a 7 day food diary. This not only saves time in clinic but is also provides a great opportunity for you to consider your own needs while completing the form. Many find just this form-filling process quite cathartic.
An in-clinic Naturopathic Assessment first involves an in-depth discussion through your history and family history, followed by Iridology (iris assessment), Kinesiology Muscle Response Testing and evaluation, and appropriate supplements and remedies for the next 4-6 weeks. A Personalised Naturopathy Programme will be prepared for you after the Consultation which includes supplements and remedies, if necessary, together with dietary and lifestyle changes and often naturopathic techniques to do at home. Explanations will be offered as to likely root causes of imbalances that may be the underlying root causes of presenting symptoms.
For in-clinic Kinesiology Muscle Response Testing, clients lie fully clothed on a couch, (comfortable clothing is recommended) while using gentle pressure, I test the resistance of one or more muscles, usually using either an arm or a leg, to pinpoint internal imbalances. Where an imbalance is found I will focus on the most effective health solutions to help bring about the restoration of inner harmony.
Naturopathy does not "treat", "heal" or diagnose. We educate a person on how to identify, understand and nurture their predispositions, and how to help bring their body back into balance so that it can start its innate healing process. In fact, the word doctor derives from the Latin word “docere” meaning "to teach" which is what doctors used to do to prevent illness. So I will be giving you some homework reading to do of my fact sheets and I usually suggest a specific book or two to consolidate your education. I teach clients how to understand their stressors and trighgers, and to take responsibility for their own health. The healing with dietary and lifestyle changes come from the client. I do not heal, but guide.
The body never works against us, we just mis-interpret the signals. Naturopathy seeks to restore the body's vital energy through changes in diet, correcting nutritional deficiencies, and naturopathic cleansing techniques. I seek to identify and address the root cause of symptoms, not just suppressing the symptoms. I help you to "clean your fish bowl" so that you can thrive. In Naturopathy we don't "treat" named diseases, but help the body to get back to balance so that it can heal itself as much as it is able. In Naturopathy, we understand a person's story, by taking a detailed history. As Hippocrates said 'it is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has.'

You should allow a budget of £1-£3 per day for recommended supplements / remedies. Generally, more nutritional support in the form of supplements is needed at the onset of support, and this usually decreases as your health improves. You will receive a personalised HomeoBotanical remedy included with your first consultation (and package). Supplements / Remedies may include nutritional Supplements, HomeoBotanicals, Homeopathy Remedies, Homotoxicology and Narayani (complex homeopathy) Remedies, flower or gem essences (e.g. Bach, Australian Bush, Divine Harmony). I will usually suggest a few gentle supplements and remedies to support the dietary and lifestyle changes, and help the process along, but please note that supplements and remedies do not heal, healing comes from the client.
Unlike the more allopathic "Functional Medicine" approach, I do not use hugely expensive laboratory tests, instead using valuable traditional naturopathic tools such as hair, nail, tongue, iris analysis (iridology), Kinesiology Muscle Response Testing. I do however often suggest Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis for further clarification.
How many visits will I need?
Naturopathic treatment is about long-term changes to encourage optimal health. It is common for a client to return for a number of consultations over a period of months, or even years, adjusting the treatment plan little by little until the body is back in the best state of balance it can be. The number of sessions required depends on the nature of the problem, the length of time you have suffered from it, and how well you have been at following recommendations and taking charge of your own health.
For instance, if there is a food intolerance, it can take several weeks for the effects of the food to leave the body once the food is removed, and several more weeks or months for the tissues to heal. Most people start to see improvement within around 6 - 8 weeks, however a very rough guide could be a month for every year you've had the problem. As you start to feel better, the gap between visits widen as long as you have been making the changes suggested. The older we are, the more challenging it can often be to make changes, and also for the body to balance. Most clients have follow up sessions / supplement reviews between 4-6 weeks which may include any of my other modalities / therapies.
Please note that going through your whole history and symptoms, and a 2.5 hour consultation can be very tiring, and may also release emotions. I therefore recommend avoiding any other treatments that may promote additional emotional release for a week afterwards, and after the consultation make sure that you plan to rest for the rest of the day, and also the next day, especially if your vitality is low, so please build this into your diary.
